The Essentials
Here is what you need for a basic OXOCO setup. Everything is available on Shopee, AliExpress, or your local electronics shop.
USB-C OTG Y-Cable with Charging
This is the most important accessory for USB printing.
Your tablet has one USB port. This cable lets you charge the tablet AND connect a printer at the same time.
What to search for: "USB-C OTG Y-cable with charging" or "USB-C OTG adapter with power"
What it looks like: One end plugs into the tablet (USB-C). The other end splits into two: a charging port (for your charger) and a USB-A port (for the printer).
Price: $2 to $5
Where to buy:
- Shopee: search "USB-C OTG charging cable"
- AliExpress: search "USB C OTG Y cable power"
- Any electronics shop in your area
What NOT to buy
Do not buy a powered USB hub (a hub with its own power adapter). When a powered hub is connected to the tablet, it sends electricity back through the USB port. This confuses the tablet and it stops seeing the printer.
If you already own a powered USB hub, you can still use it. Just unplug the hub's own charger. Let the tablet be the only device providing power through the cable.
Recommended Printers
Any ESC/POS thermal printer will work. Here are some good options for different budgets.
Budget ($15 to $25)
These are the most common printers in Southeast Asia. They are simple, reliable, and easy to find.
- Xprinter XP-58IIH (58mm, USB) - around $15
- Xprinter XP-80C (80mm, USB + Ethernet) - around $22
- Generic 80mm USB thermal printer from Shopee - $15 to $20
Mid-Range ($30 to $60)
Better build quality, faster printing, and usually includes both USB and Ethernet.
- MUNBYN ITPP047 (80mm, USB + Ethernet)
- RONGTA RP326 (80mm, USB + Ethernet)
- Xprinter XP-N160II (80mm, USB + Ethernet + WiFi)
Premium ($80+)
For high-volume restaurants that need speed and durability.
- Epson TM-T20III (80mm, USB + Ethernet)
- Star TSP143IV (80mm, USB + Ethernet)
Choosing between 58mm and 80mm
| 58mm | 80mm | |
|---|---|---|
| Paper cost | Cheaper | Standard |
| Receipt size | Compact, harder to read | Standard, easy to read |
| Printer cost | Cheaper | Standard |
| Best for | Small cafe, street food | Restaurants, any business |
Our recommendation: Go with 80mm. The paper is cheap, and the receipts are much easier to read.
Recommended Tablets
OXOCO runs in a web browser, so any Android tablet with Chrome works. Here are some good options.
Budget ($80 to $150)
- Xiaomi Redmi Pad SE (11", good for counter POS)
- Samsung Galaxy Tab A9 (8.7", good for waiters)
- Lenovo Tab M11 (11", good for counter POS)
Things to look for
- Screen size: 10" or bigger for the counter POS. 8" is fine for waiters carrying it around
- WiFi: Make sure it supports 5GHz WiFi for faster, more stable connections
- USB-C port: All modern tablets have this. Needed for the OTG Y-cable
- Battery: At least 7000mAh so it lasts all day even if the charger disconnects briefly
What you do NOT need
- A very fast processor. OXOCO is lightweight and runs fine on budget tablets
- A lot of storage. OXOCO runs from the internet, it does not use much local space
- A SIM card slot. WiFi is enough. But if your tablet has one, it can be useful as a backup when WiFi goes down
Network Equipment
If you are using network printers, you need a WiFi router. Most restaurants already have one.
WiFi Router
Any router works. If you are buying new, look for:
- Dual-band (2.4GHz + 5GHz) so tablets can use the faster 5GHz band
- At least 4 Ethernet ports so you can plug in multiple printers
- Brands like TP-Link, Xiaomi, or Tenda are fine. No need for expensive brands
Ethernet Cables
- Cat5e or Cat6 cables, any brand
- Buy the length you need (1m, 3m, 5m, 10m)
- One cable per network printer
